Simply put, Hacking is the application of computer science to solve a particular problem. Hackers are known to fall into one of three categories, Black Hat Hackers, White Hat Hackers and Gray Hat Hackers. Betty Bytes Team works between Gray and Red Hats.

Black Hat

Cyber criminals are what is known as the Black Hat Hackers. They crack systems for their own malicious intent. They are known for implementing a virus or causing crashes within a system for their own personal/financial gain or status.

White Hat

The hackers who identify and correct vulnerabilities in systems are known as the White Hat Hackers. Their main purpose is to strengthen a system and eliminate weaknesses.

Gray Hat

The Gray Hat Hackers explore systems without malicious intent but to explore and discover what is a weakness. They will report them with the hopes for payment made to correct the vulnerability. Gray Hat Hackers operate between black and white in an area that is difficult to prosecute.

Most hackers will fall into one of these categories, but there are sub-types of hackers also of note:

Green Hat

These hackers may be black, white or gray but are also inexperienced hackers.

Blue Hat

These hackers are white hat but fully employed with a company for continued security protection.

Red Hat

These vigilante hackers are motivated by the desire to block the work of the powerful. They infiltrate dark web networks and plot against the continued power of a group.
